Ichiro Akuta is the grand-son of the founder of the famous Hanyu distillery. In 2007, he built a new whisky distillery, 100km northwest of Tokyo. Located near Hanyu, the local climate (humid summers and cold winters) provides excellent maturing conditions for whisky. Even though it is a young distillery, Chichibu continues to release exceptional whiskies.
The Floor Malted Ichiro's Malt is a limited release of 8,800 bottles distilled in 2009 from malted barley malted to Ichiro Akuto's specifications he learned himself on a trip to England, bottled 2012.
