Discover Glenrothes: A Legacy of Resilience and Character
Founded in 1878, Glenrothes Distillery has a remarkable story of perseverance and innovation. Despite early setbacks—including the departure of a founding partner and a series of devastating fires and explosions—the distillery rebuilt and expanded, emerging stronger with each challenge. By the late 20th century, Glenrothes operated ten stills and produced over five and a half million litres of whisky annually.
For much of its history, Glenrothes’ spirit was a key component in iconic blends like Cutty Sark and Famous Grouse, with only a handful of single malt releases. That changed in recent decades, as Glenrothes gained global recognition for its unique approach: releasing single malts by vintage rather than age statement. This, combined with the distillery’s signature rich, smooth style and distinctive bottle design, has made Glenrothes a favourite among collectors and enthusiasts.
Today, Glenrothes continues to thrive under the stewardship of The Edrington Group, producing exceptional single malts in partnership with Berry Brothers & Rudd. Explore our curated selection of Glenrothes whiskies—each bottle a testament to the distillery’s enduring legacy and craftsmanship.
