Glenmorangie is a Highland single malt whisky from Tain, on the Dornoch Firth, made in the tallest stills in Scotland. Its spirit is light and fruity, and the distillery is known for experimenting with casks. Many buyers come here for the 10 Year Old, The Original's age statement for many years, and Whiskys (The Specialist Whisky Shop) holds bottlings from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. Why are some Glenmorangie bottles so expensive?The 10 Year Old and The Original

The Original is where Glenmorangie's whisky starts. It is matured in bourbon casks, and the distillery describes it as creamy vanilla and citrus, layered with honey and peach. Today The Original is bottled at 12 years old. That makes the 10 Year Old bottlings a record of how Glenmorangie used to taste, and they're sought after for exactly that. Alongside the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s bottlings we have a 1990s litre and the Sesquicentennial gift tin.

Signet and the 18 Year Old

Signet is the richest whisky in the range. It begins with chocolate malt spirit, which Glenmorangie makes just once a year, then is balanced with bourbon casks, sherry casks, virgin charred oak and some of the oldest whisky the distillery owns. The distillery's notes are bitter mocha, dark chocolate, spice and butterscotch.

The 18 Year Old Extremely Rare is the earlier edition of Glenmorangie's 18. The distillery has since replaced it with The Infinita, so the Extremely Rare is now one for collectors as well as drinkers.

Cask finishes and Private Editions

Much of Glenmorangie's range is the same spirit finished in other casks. The Quinta Ruban uses port casks from Portugal; ours is the older 12 Year Old version, now a 14. We also hold the Malaga Cask Finish and A Tale of Winter, finished in Marsala casks.

The Private Editions are yearly experiments. Spìos, the ninth, was the first Glenmorangie fully matured in ex-American rye whiskey casks. Allta, the tenth, was made with a wild yeast found growing on the distillery's own barley. We also have Bacalta, Milsean and The Lighthouse.

For collectors there's the 25 Year Old Quarter Century and a 1963 "Pure Old" 22 Year Old. If you're after a Glenmorangie you can't see here, ask us and we'll look to source it.
