An exceptionally rare glimpse of mature Macallan, and the crown of Rare Find's The Long Game, the October 2026 trio of exceptionally old single casks spanning 34 to 38 years of maturation. Distilled in 1990 at The Macallan near Craigellachie and bottled in 2026 at 36 years old, this whisky spent its entire life in a single refill sherry butt, cask 11317. Just 18 bottles were produced, at a natural cask strength of 54.1%, natural colour and without chill filtration.
A sherry butt is a large cask of around 500 litres, traditionally seasoned with sherry from Jerez. As a refill cask it has already given up some of its most intense sherry character to an earlier fill, so its influence is gentler and more measured, which suits a very long maturation like this one. Over more than three and a half decades, that measured influence has let the character of Macallan's rich, full-bodied spirit take centre stage, while the slow interaction with the wood has built remarkable depth, richness and refinement.

Established in 1824 in Craigellachie, The Macallan is celebrated for rich, full-bodied single malts with flavours of dried fruit, vanilla, oak and spice, made on small copper pot stills and matured in carefully chosen sherry-seasoned casks. Independent single casks of Macallan at this age are vanishingly rare, which is what makes The Long Game such a remarkable release.
