Deanston 1991 34 Year Old | Rare Find The Long Game | 2nd Fill PX Sherry Butt 001 | 48.8% | 70cl | 72 Bottles

A 34 year old Deanston from The Long Game, Rare Find's October 2026 collection of three exceptionally old single casks. Distilled in 1991, it spent its entire life in a second-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry butt, cask 001, allowing the distillery's signature waxy character to develop over more than three decades. Bottled at natural cask strength, natural colour and non-chill filtered, from a tiny outturn of just 72 individually numbered bottles.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Deeply mature and wonderfully evocative, opening with the rich, polished character of lacquered mahogany panelling. Stewed plums and Christmas pudding bring dark fruit and spice, roasted almonds add nuttiness, and berry compote sits beneath with a touch of mentholated oak
  • Palate: Restrained yet profound. Fruit cake and deep stewed fruits lead into polished wood, dried tobacco leaves and old, cracked leather. Raspberry liqueur adds a flash of red fruit, while dry cinnamon spice provides warmth and structure
  • Finish: Refined and wonderfully composed, with mature oak and deep stewed fruits giving way to the soft, malty sweetness of malt loaf

About Deanston

A former cotton mill, Deanston was founded in 1966 beside the River Teith and is powered by its own hydro turbine. An open-topped mash tun, extended fermentation and slow distillation shape a Highland single malt known for its waxy texture and honeyed, fruity notes. Rare Find seek out Deanston for exactly that waxy character, which carries confidently through long maturation.
