Fourteen years of patient maturation, finished in a first-fill Napa Valley red wine barrique, has produced something that bridges the gap between the Scottish Highlands and California wine country in the most elegant way imaginable.
Red wine barriques are relatively rare in Scotch whisky maturation, and first-fill Napa Valley wood brings a distinctly Californian richness — bold berry fruit, warm spice, and a velvety texture that complements Deanston's naturally clean, unpeated spirit. Tasting Notes
Nose: Balsamic strawberries and fresh raspberries come first, followed by buttery flapjack, cinnamon, and a warming note of fresh ginger. Inviting and layered.
Palate: Ripe berries, plums, and sultanas lead, with golden syrup adding depth and a peppery spice keeping things lively. Rich and full without being heavy.
Finish: Long and fruity, gradually drying to a satisfying cask spice that lingers well.
