Black Bowmore 1964 Final Edition | 31 Year Old | 49% | 70cl | 1,812 Bottles | Islay Single Malt
The bottle that changed whisky collecting forever. The Black Bowmore series, first released in 1993, is widely credited with signalling the birth of whisky as a serious collectable asset — and the Final Edition, bottled in 1995 after 31 years in 1964 sherry casks, is the third of six releases in one of the most revered and sought-after series in the history of Scotch whisky. This is a whisky of historical, cultural, and oenological significance in equal measure. Just 1,812 bottles were produced — fewer than its predecessors, as reserves of the 1964 vintage grew ever scarcer. Each bottle is individually engraved and presented in Bowmore's classic handcrafted wooden presentation case.

Tasting Notes
- Nose: The legendary "lavender" character that defines pre-1990 Bowmore stock — a deeply complex, fragrant, and utterly distinctive Islay nose combining aged sherry richness with the distillery's unmistakable floral peat and coastal brine. Dark dried fruits, old oak, dark chocolate, and a whisper of maritime air drawn from over three decades on the island
- Palate: Extraordinary depth — waves of dark fruit, ancient sherry wood, warming spice, and a velvety richness that can only come from 31 years in first-class casks. The Islay character is present but refined to something contemplative and profound
- Finish: Endlessly long — sherry sweetness, dried fruit, old oak, peat smoke and the distinctive lavender-floral note that has made pre-1990 Bowmore the subject of legend among collectors worldwide

The Black Bowmore Legacy
When Morrison-Bowmore released the first Black Bowmore in 1993, the whisky world changed. For the first time, a single malt Scotch whisky was positioned and marketed explicitly as a collectable luxury object — a bottle that was as much about provenance, rarity and heritage as the liquid inside. The timing was prescient: Suntory acquired Morrison-Bowmore outright in 1994, and the subsequent series of Black Bowmore releases drew on the very last of the remarkable 1964 vintage sherry cask stocks. The pre-1990 Bowmore distillate — universally identified by its haunting lavender note, a result of the distillery's production methods at the time — has never been replicated. The Final Edition, with its 1,812 bottles, represents the moment when even the distillery acknowledged that the greatest of those reserves was running low. Six releases in total were ultimately made. All six now trade on the secondary market at extraordinary prices.
