The Macallan Carta Nautica 1987 | 38 Year Old | 45.2% | 70cl | 1 of 600
The flagship of The Macallan's Carta Nautica collection, and one of just 600 bottles. Distilled in 1987 and bottled in 2026 at 38 years old, this single malt celebrates the epic transatlantic journeys of The Macallan's oak undertaken since 1824. The whisky began its maturation in the finest oak casks seasoned with sherry wine from Jerez de la Frontera, before being moved to casks that previously held bourbon in America to complete its voyage. Macallan calls it an anomalous bottling: a sherry-then-bourbon journey that is almost unheard of for the distillery, where the combined influence of the two cask types has worked with carefully planned charm. Entirely natural colour, 45.2% ABV.
The bottle is housed in an extraordinary custom-designed solid wood presentation box with a sculpted, wave-carved exterior. Inside, water-inspired, multi-layered paper artwork by the artist Amy Genser mimics oceanic topography and sea charts, framing the bottle under the words "Explore the Depths". It is a presentation as remarkable as the whisky inside it.

About Carta Nautica
Carta Nautica is a quartet of whiskies released by The Macallan in 2026, each following the sea voyage of its casks: American oak shipped to Jerez to be seasoned with sherry, then carried north to Speyside. The 1987 is the oldest and most limited of the four, sitting above the travel retail 20 Year Old, a Latin American edition and a US-only 105 Proof. Careful hands, thoughtful hearts, nothing rushed, nothing wasted.
Perfect For
