Glenturret 12 Year Old (1990s)
As an experienced name in the industry, Glenturret has been producing whisky since 1763, making it one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. Despite its official opening date, it is believed that illegal distillers operated the site a few years prior. In 1981, Glenturret became only the second distillery to open a visitor center, providing an educational experience to those interested in the production of whisky.
However, this 12-year-old bottle from their core range was discontinued in 2003 along with the 10-year-old, making it a rare find. Upon opening, one can expect notes of sweet fruit juice and honey, as well as wildflowers.
The initial sweetness carries through to the palate, accompanied by hints of oak and a subtle touch of peat that lingers through the long finish and evolves into a warm, spicy flavor. This makes an excellent addition to a cold winter's night.
