Glenmorangie were one of the first distilleries to experiment with cask finishing and this Port wood finish from the 1990's is very different to the current 12 year old "Quinta Ruban" release.
Nose: Strawberry shortbread, red berries dusted with icing sugar, bramble jelly, some earthier/fruitier liquorice notes, sweet cured ham, raspberry coulis, pink vanilla wafers.
Palate: Red cherry and fruity liquorice, cranberry, red jelly, fragrant herbs, spicy wood, malty with earthy and leathery notes. Jam on brown bread and some crunchy tannins.
Finish: More red berry jam, malty bread, strawberry shortbread, aromatic spices, frgrant wood (pot purri) drying into herbal and earthy tannins along with some savoury honey glazed christmas ham.
A more meaty/savoury offering than the Quinta Ruban but still with plenty of bright red berry spiced fruits.
