Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix | 47.6% | 70cl | 12,000 Bottles | One-Off Speyside Single Malt
Born from disaster — and one of the most remarkable one-off whiskies ever created. On 7th January 2010, heavy snowfall caused several warehouse roofs at the Glenfiddich Distillery to collapse. The exposed casks — a mix of ex-bourbon and ex-oloroso sherry barrels ranging from 13 to 30 years old — were rescued and vatted together by Malt Master Brian Kinsman into a single commemorative expression: Snow Phoenix. Bottled without chill filtration at 47.6% ABV. Only 12,000 bottles were ever produced worldwide. This is a whisky that could only have been made once — and cannot be made again.

Tasting Notes

- Palate: Honeyed and fruity to start, with oloroso influence building alongside bittersweet chocolate, melons, apples, and pineapple. Warming spice and wood develop beautifully as you sip
- Finish: Spicy and oaky with lingering acidity and a faint, distinctive wisp of wood smoke at the very end
The Story Behind Snow Phoenix
In the early hours of 7th January 2010, the weight of heavy snowfall caused several dunnage warehouse roofs to collapse at the Glenfiddich estate in Dufftown. The casks inside — some more than three decades old — were suddenly exposed to the elements. Rather than allow this remarkable whisky to be lost, Malt Master Brian Kinsman undertook the painstaking task of assessing, selecting, and vatting the rescued casks into a single coherent expression. The result — Snow Phoenix, named for its rise from the snow — is as close as whisky gets to pure narrative: a bottle that carries an irreplaceable moment of history in every pour. Glenfiddich, family-owned by William Grant & Sons since 1887, has never released anything quite like it before or since.
