Benriach Solstice 17 Year Old Second Edition

A rare bottling of this Benriach Solstice 17 year old Second Edition Heavily Peated / Port Finish Single Malt Whisky.

The first edition Solstice was a 15 year old. While this has a couple of years extra maturation of the heavily peated malted barley in ex-Bourbon casks before finishing in Tawny Port casks.

Tasting Notes:

Nose : Fabulous aroma of stewed summer berries including strawberries, blackcurrants and red currants. The berry component is richly locked together by a muscular peaty blast. Latter traces of fortified wine and grape like qualities become apparent.

Palate : Initial, dry roasted nutty notes flow over the palate. This advances to become a heavy peaty affair. Subtle notes of dried raisins, and candied fruit.

Finish : Smooth and very long with the dominant peat flavours lingering on the palate.
