North Port-Brechin 1981 Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice is a rare single malt Scotch whisky from the closed North Port Distillery, also known as Brechin. Distilled in 1981 and bottled in 2004 by Gordon & MacPhail for their respected Connoisseurs Choice range, this 70cl release is a collectible bottling from a lost Highland distillery. Distillery Story
North Port Distillery, also known as Brechin, was founded in 1820, although the area had a long history of illicit distilling before then. The distillery benefited from an abundant local water source and proximity to farmland supplying barley, helping establish it as a notable producer over time. Originally family-owned, the distillery later changed its name to reference a local landmark and had grown into a sizeable operation by the 1920s, attracting the attention of Distillers Company Limited in 1922.

Like many Scotch distilleries, North Port’s history was shaped by periods of closure brought on by wider economic and global events. Although revived after the Second World War and used largely for blends, it eventually closed during the industry cutbacks of the 1980s. The distillery was demolished in 1994 to make way for a supermarket, leaving only a small number of official and independent bottlings behind.

Why Buy North Port-Brechin 1981 Gordon & MacPhail?
This is a strong bottle for collectors of closed distillery whisky and anyone with an interest in lesser-seen names from Scotch whisky history. Independent bottlings such as this Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice release have played an important role in preserving the legacy of North Port, making this a bottle with both collector appeal and historical significance.
