Distillery Story
Dallas Dhu Distillery operated between 1899 and 1983 and takes its name from the Gaelic for “Black Water Valley”. Designed by Alexander Edward during the whisky boom of the late 19th century, the distillery was later built by the blenders Wright & Greg before eventually coming under the ownership of Benmore Distilleries Ltd, which joined DCL in 1929.
The distillery faced setbacks during its life, including a fire in 1939 that destroyed the stillhouse, though it was later rebuilt and production continued for several more decades. Dallas Dhu eventually closed in 1983 and today survives as a museum, making its remaining bottlings increasingly desirable to collectors of closed distillery Scotch whisky.
