Along with our whisky of month being the Nc'Nean Organic malt and also with this months tasting event being hosted in partnership with Nc'Nean we are back with another deeper dive into the distillery.
Nc'Nean are independent organic whisky distillery that exists to create experimental spirits and pioneer sustainability production, tucked away in the Westerly Highlands of Scotland, is where they call home.
The distillery was started by Annabel in 2013, after she left her job in London it would take 4 years of gathering funding and building the distillery in 2017. Annabel created Nc'Nean with a simple mission statement/ objective to create a whisky that existed in harmony with planet Earth.
In 2017 distilling began and in 2020 they bottled their first organic single malt whisky, and have since created 4 different series of whiskies , botanical spirit, gift sets as the small independent distillery has grown its team to 17 people.
Sustainability is key production rule for this small determined distillery, Nc'Nean are impassioned to have a responsibility to constantly improve is carbon impact on world. They achieve this goal by having a distillery that uses renewable energy , using only organic Scottish barley and bottling their whisky in 100% recycled glass bottles and divert 99.97% waste from landfills. And in 2021 hit a major milestone as the first whisky distillery to be UK net zero carbon emission scope 1 & 2 verified.
Nc'Nean love to experiment and create unique spirit and whisky. they use at as a philosophy to experiment, out of curiosity and a willingness to try. They have since created the Huntress series of whisky, a series that is dedicated to experimentation.
They are pushing a new side of whisky production through sustainability without sacrificing quality or return. For all the accomplishments this female founded distillery has achieved in its short period is quite remarkable.
